> others harming their children

I'd suggest they did harm to their own children when they allowed a smartphone and social media at an early age.

> early age

Given that the human brain is still forming into your 20's, the harm can happen at any age. And given how much social media pressures impact teenagers, it doesn't even require that early of an age.

Are you suggesting that my comment is incorrect, that parents are okay to allow access to smartphones/tables/etc. for their children, because our brains can be harmed by social media at many other ages?

I believe that is what they call whataboutism, unless I misunderstood the point of your comment. When people comment at me I usually assume they're attempting to correct me.

Worthy of note, TLP did often harp on the fact that his view of 'narcissism' as a cultural phenomenon (I think he called it a "generational pathology") is NOT the same as the DSM definition. People are fooled into thinking every narcissist is the person with a self-inflated ego (I inferred the same from the OP, "Some of them are good enough to fool Jersey Shore candidates, while others can reach high executive positions and, in some cases, potentially win a presidential election..."). But TLP's definition was closer to someone who is completely focused on controlling others' perception of them. This could include a person who projects himself as a meek victim, but hyper-focused on relaying that image to others.

Although, this does fit quite well too: "I don't want to be with someone who doesn't care to drink tap water."

Anyway, not saying you said it was the same as the DSM definition, just adding some perspective since I read a lot of TLP and naturally compared what I read in the OP to what I remember from TLP's blog.

I'm wondering if we'll ever get to a point where we can invoke fake vacation / travel experiences, like We Can Remember It for You Wholesale (more popularly, Total Recall), by creating ML-generated images of the trip rather than inducing a dream. It seems plausible.

It's something of a double-edged sword because, naturally, "George Floyd trials" made it sound like George Floyd was the person on trial.

Not really honestly. I’m gonna make a honest guess and say no one really thought that, if you didn’t know what that trial was at that time, you genuinely had to have been living under a rock.

It's a very nice bonus to whatever companies the state has allowed to issue these certifications. More jobs for those companies, who could argue against that?! Hey I bet some of them are even friends with the governor! :)

>Hey I bet some of them are even friends with the governor! :)

Friends of legislators no doubt. Friends of the governor have better opportunities.

Given this is about shareholder value and the supposed evils that come from maximizing shareholder value, if you believe everything you read here, then you could just never take the company public.

From there, you're not beholden to shareholders to maximize their value by paying employees poorly, etc. You can pay them whatever you want, although you are still beholden to math and accounting to pay wages that keep your company profitable, at least.

I kind of hate the dramatization in newer nature documentaries, rife with cuts of sweeping landscape views set to loud, epic music. I'm probably just getting old, but it feels like they're trying too hard to keep my attention. I don't need blaring horns and pounding timpani to keep me watching.

The problem is it's a race to the bottom with these kinds of things, comparable to the over-salt-&-sugar-ing of American foods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G77ev9pks4I

"..until eventually, they’re shipping hamburger buns with exactly three sesame seeds artfully arranged in a triangle, and nobody buys their hamburgers any more."
