I'll give your posturing some thought when I see the arguments for banning alcohol. Around 1,500 murders a year are alcohol-fueled. Add in drunk driving, and it's even stronger. Nobody needs alcohol. Live by those principles and maybe people will give your cars/utility argument a second thought.
I believe both petitions were grandfathered in. And the site does indicate the "fire Stephen Heymann" petition has met the requirement.

So the Forbes author does not appear to be mistaken.
Abortion when outlawed usually had separate laws (as far as I can tell), although the punishments were equally high.
Also pretty sure "civil disobedience" precludes violating criminal law vs. merely civil violations. The requirement is general non-violence, although that's more specifically "non-violent civil disobedience". Abortion or euthanasia are unclear if they're violent.
* Camlistore is worth keeping an eye on.
Looks like a next-generation all-purpose low level CMS. By the same author of brackup, Brad Fitzpatrick. http://camlistore.org/
The post refers to Twitter MySQL 5.5. I would be interested to know what Percona, a more mature fork, is doing with respect to these recent patches from Twitter.
As far as I know, neither Percona nor any of the others have picked up our changes or anything like them. However we'll be working with them to get something that makes sense in a generally available release.
And what do you propose is the alternative? Very easy to take a moral high ground when you don't have to worry about the repercussions of over population and strained resources. As the poster said themselves - too many people in China.
I don't need to propose an alternative in order to state that the imposed one child policy is evil, along with its forced abortions and forced sterilizations.
Second, you can't prove overpopulation is as serious as the government claims, nor can you prove their "solution" fixes it.
Third, if it is as serious as is claimed, it will affect the world (anthropogenic environmental impact, immigration, etc...), so it's everyone's worry.
