NEET was code for bums/ layabouts/hikikomori right from the beginning I suspect. ;)

That is 100% not what the link says.

Hey, 82% are not 1%ers!

That distribution really is extremely heavily skewed, so I think the original comment is correct, I can't see how it's improving equality.

If 1.8% were poor and Harvard helped them become rich adults, probably 65% were rich and Harvard helped them stay rich as adults.

Stopping social drinking was tougher than stopping binge drinking for me. What helped was deciding to go 100% cold turkey for a year. It forced me to learn how to socialise sober. Before that it was too easy to opt out of sobriety "just for this occasion".

Any tips for socializing sober? I struggle with that

How many tons of earth need to be processed to end up with 80k tons of neodymium?

I'm a fan of writing things in my own words. Don't just copy and paste chunks of text verbatim.

Andy Matuschak has written about his techniques for keeping notes. https://notes.andymatuschak.org/About_these_notes

Molecular notes is another take on keeping notes https://reasonabledeviations.com/2022/04/18/molecular-notes-...

Ha, what did you do right or wrong to end up with declining income?

Really hope that they meant disposable income and they're just maxing out 401k contributions and have kids and the like!

I'm hoping the same. Regarding 401k please remember that employer matches do not count towards the contribution limit, always calculate your deduction so that you max it out without the employer match. The employer match is the cherry on top.

Nope, but I elaborated in a sibling comment

Nah, just a really slow turnaround for finding new jobs after losing about 7 of them, and other things that I mentioned in a sibling comment.

My income potential increased quite dramatically actually. But after multiple burnouts, and struggling with symptoms of ADHD, it doesn't really matter what you accomplish most of the time if you miss enough morning standups to piss off the manager. So I've really struggled to maintain _any_ employment, and therefore I had literally zero money going into this year. The memory leak analogy was due to working every so often enough to bank a few tens of thousands, and then losing that job and just gradually draining mt entire bank account while looking for a new one.

It’s been a while since I looked at IPCC report. Is the worst case still apocalyptically bad? We’re nearing 1.5 degrees above average and the results are bad enough already. (Not looking forward to another summer of fires like Australia had a couple of years ago.)

We're still not only increasing emissions, but accelerating the increasing emissions. I don't think we'll avoid a rise of 4 degrees over the average.

On the bright side we may have killed the cycles of glaciation that would have been awkward in the future, to put it mildly. The cost is going to be so heavy though.

Would love to read a blog post about what this kind of code looks like!

Sounds fun!

Your four emotional needs ring true to me. I’ve also spent a good chunk of time playing video games. Can I suggest trying out mountain biking as an alternative source of adrenaline? IME it’s possible to balance the risk if you stay conscious of what you are doing and confident enough to skip a challenging feature when you’re not feeling it.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll definitely look into it, I've been trying to find an activity that will get me more outdoors so perhaps biking has what I'm looking for.
