You would have to somehow scare our elected reps into doing what is right

Or start our own “people’s hospitals” or even insurance (there should not be insurance schemes IMO)

Or maybe not pay existing hospitals/ insurance companies

I do not know how else to “try”

We were one congressional vote away from a public option for healthcare. Let's not pretend it isn't explicitly one party obstinately refusing to do anything on healthcare and dozens of other issues. The answer isn't to scare our elected reps into doing what is right. It's to stop voting for Republicans.

Does the following thing they make you acknowledge mean you can’t use this to pick stocks?

“It is unlawful to use the information contained in these Financial Disclosure Statements for (A) any unlawful purpose, (B) any commercial purpose, other than by news and communications media for dissemination to the general public, (C) determining or establishing the credit rating of any individual, or (D) use, directly or indirectly, in the solicitation of money for any political, charitable, or other purpose. See 5 U.S.C. app. § 105(c)(1),(2). In conformity with 2 U.S.C. § 104e(b)(3), certain personally identifiable information in these reports, not required to be disclosed, has been redacted.”

It definitely doesn't fall under (C) and (D). I'd have to stare harder at insider trading laws, but probably doesn't fall under (A) either. (B) might prohibit you from building an index fund based on it, but I think you should be able to do the stock picking yourself.

Have you ever watched a nature program? 99% of animals are spending 99% of their time trying to survive and reproduce. They aren’t asking themselves “why?” hence the absence of any existential crises. That is the universal behavior, and it is totally valid for any being capable of knowing this to be depressed about it.

In truth, who really knows what animals think.

My pets certainly seem to appreciate companionship.

I found it quite well-written. Why so?

I had em, powder didn’t work. Don’t remember if I was using diatomaceous earth, poison or both. It got to the point where I didn’t know if I was itching because of the powder, the bugs or my head. Eventually I washed all my clothes in the bathtub in really hot water - and that’s the first time I saw them. I realized they were prob living in a bag of mine that I had at the hotel I was at when I got them. Threw that in a hot bathtub. Washed all my clothes - left the bag outside for 1 Wisconsin winter. Problem eventually resolved. Didn’t need to get a heat treatment - just very thoroughly “boiled” them myself.

But fast forward a few months, I had to go on another trip. When I reached my hotel and unpacked, I saw that I had a lot of slow moving bugs in the bag. Idk if they were eggs initially or what, but they survived an entire winter of very cold weather. Needless to say, I immediately gave the bag a hot bath and there were pretty heavy casualties. I think it was contained bc I think they were still coming out of some sort of dormant state and unable to scurry away.

Couldn't you just get rid of the bag at that point?

My thoughts exactly.

> they survived an entire winter of very cold weather

Unless it's really cold, bedbugs actually live longer in the cold. Up to 18 months has been reported! Heat treatment is much more effective.

Some bugs live longer in the cold. They can go into hibernation. But for some of them heat kills them by dessication.

I just watched a video where the guy touches on GPT-4 limitations and one of those is simple math. He asks it some order of operations question and it outputs the correct answer but only if it does it step by step. It then apologizes and says its original incorrect answer was “a typo.”

Priya the worker getting replaced is not a tragedy in any sense other then it prevents Priya the person from helping her family and maybe realizing more lofty ambitions for herself.

We made computers to do our work for us and we are succeeding. But even before GPTs, there were a lot of problems with tech changing what it means to be human.

How much of this even worth fighting?

Résumé/CV: Can provide via email. I have ~10 years experience using Python for many things. Building websites (back to front), testing, data analysis, writing/using APIs. In my last two jobs I have been an analyst and not a developer, but used Python to automate as much of my job (and any tedious tasks, be they mine or others’) as possible. Also use Python/sql for data related tasks for the ‘business’ people
