Did you consider that, instead of a hive mind or something silly like that, your post was just overreaching and insulting in its phrasing? I mean, you might recall that I jumped in on that Amazon thread when somebody was calling you a liar. And I downvoted you here, because you were extrapolating your personal feelings to the market at large and kind of being a dink about it.

(And, seriously, Steve Jobs on styluses can get bent. You know why I have a stylus? Because I use Photoshop. These devices, and I say this as somebody who otherwise doesn't use Windows, are absolutely killer for that.)

One of these days Apple will come with a stylus of their own and will deem it revolutionary for anyone taking notes and everyone would then want it. I'm still waiting for A4 sized tablets.

> Steve Jobs on styluses can get bent

Steve Jobs also sought alternative medicine for his cancer, so it's not as if he is some repository of universal truths.

And I think locking iPad into media appliance role has to do with them not wanting to kill half of Mac sales, it doesn't make sense to me to artificially limit what is from HW standpoint essentially a keyboardless laptop otherwise. That's why I'll take (transformer) W8 over iPad any day - I only have to take around one device.

I can respect that. I use Windows where I have to; I do game dev in a Windows VM (so I can still use a laptop that feels good, I haven't found good Windows hardware). The SP3 isn't a good substitute for that for me, because it's been impossible to find a keyboard/trackpad for it that isn't jokey. The Type Cover isn't a terrible keyboard, but songs could be written about what garbage the trackpad is and so I strictly reserve the SP3 for things where I don't need to type (or at home, where I have a passable BT keyboard that I wouldn't want to carry around the rest of the day).

It's especially bad because Apple devices are so common among creatives. I bought a Wacom Cintiq so I can draw on my Mac with a screen with a decent pen (it's easier to work with than having to look at the computer screen). But then I tried the Surface at the stores and Apple lost me as a customer. I don't need a gold watch or a ultra-thin battery pack that happens to include a computer. I want a device from creatives for creatives. Funny that it'll come from MS!

Off topic, but karma is useless and you should not care -- standing by your opinion is worth more than imaginary internet points.

I really wish there was a feature in HN that didn't let you delete a comment after a certain time, or maybe just after it had been up/downvoted or been replied to. It makes a lot of conversations hard to follow when people delete their comments in a fit of pique after they get downvoted, and I have to guess what the replies are in response to.

You can't delete when the edit time expires, but that's a very generous timer.

Seems like some people actively want to be oppressed, and what better to accomplish it than to delete your comment because unfriendly people are downvoting it?

Your post seemed to be wrong about the stylus - it's not required, you can just use the touchscreen like any other tablet. It's a convenience for drawing.
