Dead: Thinkature(Dec 2006), Shoutfit(site doesnt even load!), Flagr(Dec 2006), Versionate(July 2007.. just 4 posts and then mysterious disappearance without a word), Octopart(oct 2007), Buxfer(oct 2007) [if u guys are still around please dont chase me down with a hacksaw or smthn..]

GI, GO. At least half the companies you mention as dead are still alive. But I would not want to say precisely which, because dying is not a sharply defined thing. Startups not infrequently come back from what seems to be death, and we wouldn't want to hose one that might by publicly declaring them so.

I think loopt might be alive too, but hanging by a thread. I remember pg saying on many occasions that loopt is yc's least successful company. Probably not worth mentioning, though. Please check sarcasm meters prior to downvoting.

a very small thread, but yes, i think they are alive

This was posted yesterday:

They seem to be doing pretty well.

Looks like they're very well positioned to take advantage of Android.

loopt is one of the most successful YC companies alive.

Octopart seems very much "alive". Their last blog post was a mere 3 weeks ago. They've had similar gaps in blog posts before.

Buxfer seems to be doing fine as well.

Octopart is still alive. A month ago, they went to Make Faire, and they released a parts list widget about three weeks ago. They add features quietly and on the down low.

Yah, we (aka Buxfer) are alive :) Guess we need to be posting more frequently to the blog. Btw, we just announced support for synchronizing with over 300 financial institutions. http://www.buxfer.com/blog/2007/11/21/synchronize-accounts-w...

Check it out, and let us know if things are or aren't working!

Octopart is definitely alive. I emailed them recently and got a prompt response. I'm seeing new features on their site too... it looks really slick.

Versionate and Buxfer are definitely still around.

AdPinion, definitely still around. Heysan, was hiring recently, so definitely still around. SocialMoth, it's just Paul now, I think...but doing well as a maker of Facebook apps.

I'm glad to see that Virtualmin is immune to the "no blog post in a month==company is dead" rule. We blog very rarely, though we're trying to be better about it. ;-)

Adpinion still alive, in fact, we're testing them on some of our pages. Heysan still alive because the service works. Social moth is trying facebook stuff now I think. Luke, wherever you are, I got your back dawg.

this list isn't extremely accurate. in fact i think it is overly pessimistic.
