Some similar work is in the very early stages for MMA. I won't say much more than that, but if you're interested and willing to live in the Washington, D.C. area, FightMetric is hiring.
Don't be fooled by the job title - I started here building Rails apps and wound up building things that are ... decidedly not Rails apps.
I've been looking for statistics in a format that I can use programmatically for NFL, NBA, and NHL to try and use for daily fantasy. I haven't been able to find anything under several hundred dollars, wonder if anyone knows of a decent source that isn't super expensive.
Feeds are expensive if you want realtime, but if you are happy with daily stats then you can easily scrape every 6 or so hours from each site you need, and fall under the scraping radar.
Not sure about NBA or NHL, but for NFL I'd refer you to these tools: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7159731 (I was the OP of that thread, but I'm not associated with the tools' creator)
I've been looking around for the same. The problem seems to be that there are only a few big outlets (some with exclusive contracts) doing the stats for the big sports. It seems possible to scrape a lot of what you need though, unless you need up to date data daily (which could still be scraped but it would be a much larger undertaking).
My question is, how do you plan on getting data from the daily fantasy sites (e.g. salary caps and salaries of players)? I don't think FanDuel (or any of the other sites) has a public api for anything other than seeing user rankings.
I've been looking for similar data. What I really could use is some way to export Yahoo stats (including positions). Bonus points if I can get historical projections out of Yahoo (I'm trying a method of projecting fantasy stats that I want to compare with Yahoo's over the course of a few years. If I am right, my projections should be more accurate than Yahoo's, and if I am wrong, I have some ideas on how to adjust it).
I'm not super familiar with daily fantasy (variance is obviously going to be huge) - but for NHL data check out extraskater.com - think he uses nhl event feeds. Features have been rolling out this year and it's easy to see tons of team strategy and playing time matchup data from all the situational datasets available - not updated exactly in real time but certain pieces of the site are I think.
