I think 800% larger traffic than what they had eighteen months ago is pretty impressive. But since they're not as big as Google nobody should care?

I don't. Doublign every six months is nothing to be embarrassed about but it's not especially epic. Contrast, say, Vine - which grew about 4000% in the first 6 months of this year:
