Show HN: Neural Net Flies Navigate through a maze (claude.ai)

In this simulation, flies are controlled by a neural network. You can adjust the hyperparameters. There's a maze mode, in which flies have to avoid some obstacles. I think the effect is pretty cool. What do you think?

I loaded this on my phone and there's no food visible. It only made sense when I tried it from a computer.

Landscape mode fixed it for me.

Very interesting. The maze is very difficult. Tries 2k+ generations with various params but can't let them go out of local optimal solution. They straightly just go up.

Just a note that you'll want to use the updated link, because the flies weren't able to navigate the more complicated maze - or at least, I couldn't get them to using the hyperparameters I tried.

I was wondering if the issue there is maybe the fitness function - the flies can get a higher fitness by avoiding the maze entrance early on by just heading straight up and early attempts to go into the maze early on will result in lower fitness.
