Self driving cars will need a full array of sensors as long as there are human drivers. Eventually, everything will be self driving, all cars, roads, signposts will be designed for self driving. Then, a car can function with minimal self driving hardware. All cars will be in constant communication with each other, building a model of traffic in their car brain, instantaneously shaping traffic for continuous flow without congestion or accidents.
