First decent double-NAT transiting protocol.

Remarkably good loss/jitter management.

Simple. Direct phone analogies for many functions.

Simply OBE for so many things now in Teams, Meet, Zoom, Although again WebEX broke the ground here.

My weekly family catchup videocall will have to move now, but there's no desire to make it zoom. all the crap which comes along for the ride.

Estonia did good.

For non-US people, Whatsapp became the default for people to talk with friends and family. Slowly, Whatsapp started becoming the way to talk to businesses such as ordering something or support. Then businesses started talking to each other on Whatsapp.

Whatsapp cornered the talk outside of your company market. You have all your contacts on Whatsapp.

Geo-niche chat apps such as iMessage in US, Line in Japan, Viber in certain eastern european countries fill the rest of the market.

Next, Teams and Slack integrated calls and video chat directly and cornered the talk inside your company market.

> For non-US people

what?

Edit - ok, now I understand. The comma was just confusing (and unwanted).

What a pity. To compare Skype’s functionality, user experience, satisfaction, and just overall design with Teams is almost heresy. I’ve never met one person who uses Teams willingly; every single person who ever invited me to a Teams meeting has mentioned they hate it, but are forced to use it by their organization.

I loved Skype back in the day. Me and my wife would use Skype kasts and chat to people from all over the world. It was good with my screen reader all so. After the buyout it all went down hill. O yeah and teams is a fucking pile!

Skype went downhill for me after it was acquired by Microsoft with many paper-cuts like account management and constant re-designs.

Answer: Microsoft happened.
