Portable as in you can carry it to some other location with power, because a Mac mini doesn't come with a battery like a laptop. Why not get a MacBook Air that fits easily in your backpack and makes it truly portable and then you have a laptop that works when you're not wearing the dork goggles instead of a useless brick that needs power and an external display to work at all.
I think it is that the curved display is roughly two 5k monitors in resolution which doesn’t fit in a backpack and using it as more as a desktop replacement instead of a laptop and you can’t put two 5k screens in your bag. If you are going to a place for 8 hrs and power is available the portability argument is harder to justify but the price isn’t .
I got mine for health reasons (low back, must work lying down sometimes), and while for me it’s a really useful tool, I couldn’t see working in it full time. It’s just too bulky, leaves a dumb red mark on my face, has bugs where sometimes it doesn’t connect, and is pretty much always dead unless it’s actively plugged in (doesn’t idle well).
Some of those things can be improved but inherently strapping a computer to your face is just not a great experience.
I definetly get use out of mine - I’d say 5 hour a week is a sweet spot - and it’s cool working in novel places like a garden or by a river, but full time doesn’t seem feasible
