Poly Microplastic Fiber Generation During Use of Cleaning Sponges (acs.org)

I use these. They undoubtedly work for the task to hand. I have wondered, worried what their microplastic burden was. It's pretty clear its bad. Very bad.

I think it very likely this product like facial scrubs with plastics, will need to be phased out.

I already avoid BPA plastics for food, I've moved to glass for microwave heating. The amount of migration of fat into the plastic (sugo stains) strongly suggests that the food I like (rich, fatty sauces) and this plastic have an affinity.

I never expected to wind up being one of those "these modern contrivences are bad for us" people but.. I am actually quite worried. I do not see how having stuff like this promiscuously in the environment, water supply, crossing the blood brain barrier, in the testes and ovaries, is a "good thing"

I'll go for sulphamic acid instead, when it comes to pan cleaning. Or, Barmans Friend: Oxalic acid.
