It's not a theory, it's right in the form instructions, and I've done it many times. You can enter a single summary line on 8949 for a bunch of similar transactions, and indicate via a code on the form that you have attached a PDF with the details from the brokerage.
Also, other tax software beside Turbotax allows import of CSV data onto the Form 8949.
