This is all of a piece with the Burmese government trying to ban VPNs. Controlling information is The Game. If you can, or cannot, control information, then it does not even matter whether you can control anything physical.
his "free speech absolutism" is little more than branding for his real philosophy, which is literally just whatever benefits his own bottom line; however, I think that requiring live info on people's locations to be delayed by 24 hours is not a good argument that he's against free speech. as you say, there are better examples.
There are better examples, sure, however the early banning of the real time account was a very famous and very early example of that which would follow given it came a very short time after a very public declaration of tolerance.
From my point of view the requiring a delay after all this publicity and talk is pure security theatre .. I would argue that any stalker motivated enough to harm Musk and family is motivated enough to look up how to directly access the raw real time tail data feed - it's not difficult to access and there's been more than enough forum discussion and scripts rolled up that no real barrier exists.
I threw it in merely as it was the first very public instance of watch what he does in opposition to that which he says.
I'd somewhat disagree. the ease of access to a piece of information is an influential parameter in how dangerous it is. most people, even nowadays, cannot program and would be extremely nervous running something from the command line. if access to a piece of information is behind a barrier like that, then you can reasonably say that the risk has been reduced somewhat, can you not?
