I have yet to hear an idea to implement age-gating that I would be remotely comfortable with using myself, so anything age-gated using the technologies/approaches that I'm aware of would keep me out as well, making the web even smaller.

Maybe that's inevitable and necessary, though. I just selfishly think that it's a shame that it would shut me out. Or maybe not. Maybe an even smaller web would be a good thing.
