Back when I was taking programming classes in the early 90s, everything was done on "IBM compatible" PCs because of the job market. I remember one professor talking about how everyone that learned to program in high school did it on Apple computers, but said they had to switch because there were no professional programming jobs for Apple.
The school had Macs, but those were for graphics-oriented classes, and they had Apples, but those were for word processing.
