And it can be a little hard to go back and learn the things you miss.

Personally, I wish I had learned more of the greek alphabet in school. When I look at papers today I often get stuck on the symbols and my reading turns into "Where squiggly line is..."

Yeah, if you've got a deep hole in your knowledge, it can be difficult to know where the bottom is (which is problematic because that's where you have to start filling it in).
