The deprecate dead batteries list made me feel very old. I remember the Usenet arguments about all the c variations of getopt processing which proceeded gnu getopt, and here we are saying it's too old and argsparse is better

I've been using Python for more than 15 years (or rather, only 15), and I started with `argparse`. So yeah, `getopt` is really old.
