You don't say if your looking for practical or general knowledge. If the former, there's obviously a slant, but there's a huge amount of free educational material (text and video) for the Cisco CCNA exam that starts out with basic networking and builds from there.

The CompTIA stuff is more general but does a good job.

We don't really spend a lot of time on the OSI model these days.
