Kudos to that guy.
My mom is pretty good at figuring things out, she would sometimes ask me to help and if I couldn't figure it out (mostly because I've been using linux since the Windows ME shitshow) she would poke at it until it was fixed. She also has a couple embroidering machines and a crazy robo-sewing machine she likes to use so is motivated to do stuff on her own.
My step-dad... he took a windows class through his work before he retired in the 90's and likes to break thing in fun and exciting ways, almost always wifi for some reason. Then my mom will look at it until he pisses her off and he has to go without a laptop until either myself or my bro-in-law visits and he 'allows' us to fix it. It would be tragic if my mom didn't find it amusing TBH.
Now they have some sort of tech support that remotes into the machines when my step dad gets to fiddling. I made sure it wasn't one of those scams and they seem to be happy bickering about who does the grocery shopping instead of PCs so all's well in the household.
