Prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing in the general population (nih.gov)

A few years ago, I found out that I have apnea, and I never snore. It was quite a shock that I had pretty serious apnea. I did a sleep test because I was having some other issues and it was advised. I fully expected it to show nothing. I use a CPAP machine now.

Are you overweight? If so, did you consider losing weight instead of cpap? I feel like some people use cpap to treat lifestyle (diet/exercise/sleep hygiene), but other than the study in question (and similar), it’s not well known by most doctors I’ve talked to.

Did you experience a significant improvement from using CPAP?

Absolutely. Here's the most important part: I seem to have really bad apnea in REM, which is late in the sleep cycle and extremely important. Sometimes I would literally start awake and I was aware (a few times, not always) that I had stopped breathing.

The new machines, I have a Res Med Airsense 11 (had a 10 before that) is really good. I use a nose cushion and not a face mask. The latter did not work for me.
