I knew about the wiki but I never read the "What Order Should I Make Things In?" [1] page.

Laughed out loud a few times reading about those oddly relatable archetypes.

Ah, I got to the bottom and the "Archetypes to avoid" section before realizing they weren't all cautionary tales, which makes more sense; while I grant that the absolute extremes should be viewed with some caution, I was trying to work out why ex. commitment to standards or going all-in on a microkernel would be bad.


Invaluable resource! Curious it was posted here without much additional context.


This is an amazing resource I’ve used for at least a decade whenever I’ve dabbled with OS development.
