Anyone thinking that hard drives won't be made in 5 years is deluding themselves. As long as there is demand for a lot of space per dollar (without regards to performance), and SSDs aren't cheap as dirt yet, hard drives will be the answer.

Tape drives are even cheaper, but are more exotic with higher upfront costs. Yes, tapes are still around, so why does anyone think hard drives will be any different and die sooner?

Meanwhile, I'll keep reaching for my external hard drives to backup my stuff.
