Hate to say this, but why wouldn’t this person be first on the next round of layoffs?

Being Remote is one thing, but not attending meetings? Sounds like a bridge too far…

I’m all for fixing tech debt, but it’s pretty hard to sell it unless it is directly impeding new features/opportunities…

I will not be surprised if this engineer is sidelined from future projects for being so out of touch. I hope it works out for them, but I've seen this before.
