PS1 = cheapest or among the most cheap devices to play Audio CD's.
PS2 = the same, but with DVD movies.

There were pretty cheap audio CD players around when the PSX was current. You might be right for the DVD.

Players, it depends. A
good
music set (not a cheap radiocassete) with speakers and such was around a 1/3 of the salary of an average worker in Spain.
