Youtube still works as normal (no ads, no problems) for me with the latest Firefox and uBlock Origin.

Same here (I also use EFF Privacy Badger though). Also not getting ads with Chromium and uBlock Origin.

Could this be a country-specific thing?

I suspect that, too. I got two weeks of anti-ad blockers that required refreshing uBlock Origin. Then all anti-adblock messages stopped. Maybe Portugal has low priority. As far as I can see, practically no one will pay for Youtube Premium here.

Most adblocker users are unaffected because it's only had a limited rollout. I've both been affected and unaffected using same software in an inconsistent way.

I sometimes get blocked but refreshing the ads and quickfixes lists on ublock solves it every time

This website will tell you if uBlock Origin bypasses YouTube Anti-Adblock.

Since Firefox is apparently going to follow google with blocking ad blocks, do you have any thoughts of what browser you might move to next?

Firefox said it will adopt Manifest V3 in the interest of cross-browser compatibility.

They adopt manifest v3 in addition to their current APIs. I.e adblockers on Firefox are going nowhere.

Firefox's implementation of Manifest V3 will work with software like ad blockers as it does not have the same limitations imposed on the browser side.

Having v3 is good, but only having v3 is bad. Is Firefox removing v2 support?

Manifest v3 doesn't prevent adblockers from working

Google has announced it will shut down Manifest V2 in June 2024 and move on to Manifest V3, the latest version of its Chrome extension specification that has faced criticism for putting limits on ad blockers.

Manifest V2 is the old model. The Chrome Web Store no longer accepts Manifest V2 extensions, but browsers can still use them. For now. Manifest V3 is supported generally in Chrome 88 or later and will be the standard after the transition planned to take place in June 2024.

MV2 is not required to block ads

It removes the dynamic mechanism. Under v3 adblockers wont be able to decide on the spot, only declare static lists.

chrome.declarativeNetRequest.updateDynamicRules allows for dynamic rules. It is not limited to static lists.
