Shortly after this hit the front page of HN, Barbara Nessim received a notification and immediately sent me a lovely email to say thanks. What an absolute legend!
Ha! This will be one of the few "computer art" things where I won't complain that the demoscene is getting ignored. What I find really appealing about this work is how it so effectively translates traditional and commercial art and uses the limitations of the medium in the way an artist might engage with any limited sets of tools.
This is really beautiful stuff and should be preserved as a piece of cultural heritage during an incredibly transformative time in our history.
Barbara's work is in various collections around the world, including the V&A. But given that only part of her career was spent making computer art it comprises only part of those collections.
And I wonder how much editorial work like this isn't even documented at all?
Love it! I feverishly consumed every computer mag I could get my hands on back then, and there is something about those images that still capture my imagination and wonder today. I guess thats a testament to the artist!
