Often these dongles plugged directly into the computer will have too much radio interference. This severely affects performance, but it is all often intermittent.
The solution is to get a usb extension cord and plug the dongle into that. I had this problem with several logitech mice on several different desktop computers. but the usb extension cord always fixed (because the dongle can be placed further away from the power supply, etc.).
I can’t even use the dongle straight in my Mac because it is USB-C only and the dongle is USB-A. I used the dongle in some kind of port extender, in a Dell docking station and in the USB hub on my monitor. And had issues no matter what
