I guess I was waiting for a punchline related to the "boundaries" part.

yes, this kind of error is multiplicative and thus has exponential effect, even though our intuition leans on additive effects. but causality propagates at c, so parts of the box have ~3ns to remain blissfully unaffected.

there's also something to be said for the stiffness (my term) of the system, since even the "chaotic" jointed bars example has relatively few regions of sensitivity in its operating space.
