I have no problem with targeted ads, in fact I prefer them. If I'm browsing a climbing subreddit, show me ads for climbing gear. If I'm searching for luggage online, show me ads for suitcases.
What I strenuously object to is sharing data outside of a specific vendor. If I'm browsing for suitcases on eaglecreek.com, Google and Facebook should never know and never be able to serve me any ads based on something I did outside of their services.
