so Microsoft adopting chromium as it's engine, would, erm, make this more likely or less?

Microsoft, in third place, barely has a 5% market share. I don't think they contribute to the present situation.

I hope they gain in browser market share alongside Firefox and all the other non-Chrome, non-Safari browsers.
