Why would anyone pay for your biometric data?

Only one answer makes any real sense --- they plan to sell verification as a service.

Good idea, poor implementation.

   1) Flat out paying people raises suspicions.

   2) That orb looking thingy is kinda creepy and cumbersome to use.
Better implementation.

   1) Use their palm instead.  A cheap infrared camera can see the vein pattern under the skin.  This combined with hand geometry makes for a highly accurate ID that is easier to use and less suspicious.

   2) Sell this to retailers and banks as a convenience feature.  No need for a card, just hold out your hand.
Like what Amazon is doing at Whole Foods ... and probably coming to other stores soon ... Amazon Checkout.
