I wonder if there should be criminal liability for this... literally billions of dollars of misdirected research effort for what may be a fraud.

Are amyloid plaques not an issue at all then, or coincidentally still an issue (but not justified by the research this person did)? Would be funny if this is a real world Gettier case.
