No Country's Interested in America's No. 1 Position (gov.cn)

Since, as far as I know, a large part of Hacker News crowd are US citizens, I would like to clarify that I don't post this with the intention to cause any sort of flame war. Rather, because I accidentally stumbled on this essay in the chinese consulate of Rio de Janeiro and thought it will be an interesting thing to share.

Some of it is interesting insight into the CCC's propaganda techniques. This one caught my eye: The US has the best human rights record in the world! After this followed some of US's well known civil rights abuses and atrocities.

This seems like an obvious ploy to draw attention from China's ongoing and historical civil rights atrocities and abuses. Calling out another country is one way to signal the party has no interest in exiting the leaderboard of bulk mistreatment of human beings.

And to clarify, China's atrocities don't erase US atrocities. Or UK atrocities, French, Dutch or any of the historical (or current) mistreatment committed by other first world countries. Each needs it's own accountability.

it's an interesting thing to share, but I feel like HN's original title policy falls down here. this is literal CCP propaganda, and while it's easy to tell once you're there it feels weird not to mark it somehow.

"It is so democratic that the people couldn't even elect their president smoothly."

If you care to measure the success of democracy by the degree of the consent of its victims, this would be a good point and China would be much more democratic than the US.
