You can buy super flat ethernet cables that actually work pretty decent (I wasn't able to push 10Gb/s down one, but I could get 5Gb/s).
Depending on your setup, that can work exceptionally well.
But if you own your house (and potentially if you don't but your landlord is easy-going), check the cost for even professional network drops to a central closet or location (things like the HVAC closet can work, but consider temperatures and fire regulations).
