Major refactoring of a platform is almost never the right answer, wholesale replacing battle tested code with theoretically better code satisfies only engineering teams and kills businesses.
Sure just let your competitors do that hard work instead.
A critical production piece of code can be replaced safely if a comprehensive test suite can ensure feature parity. It’s a lot of work but if people rely on it may as well test anyways. The tests will survive the upgrade.
