They could trigger a crushing ceiling when a monsters out-state is consumed, destroying the monster. In nightmare mode, the monster would shortly thereafter be respawned to its original location, ready to take on another value from its inputs.

for particularly subjective definitions of 'shortly'




if 5 minutes is the upper limit you just have figure out how to delay the next cycle for 5 minutes, giving you a 3mHz clock.
