It’s definitely not my passion but in 2013 I built a WordPress plugin around the API of a popular newsletter service and it’s been paying my bills ever since.

Still going strong at €36K per month excluding VAT.

There was (and still is) a huge market where non-technical people are looking for a GUI around something a programmer would find very simple (and usually too boring to work on). More so if the tech surrounding it is not particularly sexy, as is the case for WordPress and PHP.

Ps. In case anyone is reading this, I am open to selling. I spent about 4 hours a week on it and the rest is handled by 2 freelance people costing about €1K / month each. Contact me for details if interested and willing to pay in the ballpark of €1.6M.

Totally underrated in my opinion. WordPress is a huge market meaning distribution of scale and PHP is still a very popular language. Kudos to you for nailing this.

Congrats!

I would be interested in the M&A idea. I'm managing director of a B2B SaaS company, which is owned by a European private-equity fund. So I would have access to capital to finance such a transaction (without taking a cut on it!).

My email address is in my profile, or feel free to send me yours.

I'm interested! Email in my profile.

Second www.microacquire.com you might find more buyers there. Would snap it in a heartbeat!

Had never heard of it until it was mentioned here. Do you have any personal or even third-hand experiences with it?

How did you came up with the idea?

Scratched my own itch. Was freelancing for clients back then, just putting together simple WordPress websites. A lot of them needed a newsletter sign-up form and wanted something that kept them on their own sites.

So I built a generic "newsletter sign-up" plugin and then noticed that a lot of my users were using Mailchimp, so then I built one tailored for Mailchimp too.

Put it up on microacquire!

That looks neat! Any (personal or third-hand) experience with it? I received some quotes from business brokers over the last few years but at 12.5% fee and a 3.8x multiplier it was almost never worth it for me.

Microacquire is considerably cheaper and I love that they have the option to just list it yourself. Thx for the suggestion!
