Very interesting article. Japan is in real trouble as a society and possibly danger as an ally of the West. China doesn't just want payback so do many Koreans on both sides of the DMZ.
Japan's inability to raise a full military since 1945 has been a pretty big hinderance to their self-defense capabilities and the USA might not be able to help them if real war begins.
It's strange that Japan is allies with the West and not Russia. Japan and Russia have way more in common as isolated countries in love with their own cultures than Japan has with the ever changing USA.
Russia isn’t in love with its own culture. If you read their books, you’ll see a sense of inferiority, intellectuals eagerly debating throughout history adoption of Latin alphabet, just to become more European, and these days propaganda being mostly anti-West rather than pro-anything Russian.
Whereas Japan really seemed to be in love with its own culture in the past. And I’d say rightly so.
