Rust is an able C/C++ replacement. Even Linus, who's picky about what goes into the kernel tree, is allowing/supporting it. It really shouldn't be a burden to pick up for anyone who's done C/C++, IMHO.

I have a good news for you. Recently, two IBM employees appeared on Rust's issue tracker and reported their intention to port Rust to AIX.
