Interesting story I heard was some Grumman guy decided to mouth off to an Admiral that Grumman knew what the Navy needed better than the Navy did.

I wager there is much more to it, (it was a complex beast of a plane), but I imagine if that happened, it'd certainly track right for for putting an uppity vendor in their place.
