Why deprecate this at all? It’s not like the logic around trending repositoriesis likely to change in the next 10 years or so.
If they do this it must be for some other reason than upkeep.

I and others are guessing it's a Digg-style sabotage in favor of ad-driven, corporate-friendly traffic sculpting. Worked great for Digg, right?
