It would be a rich irony if they end up having to release chunks of code for their restrictively-licensed firmware because they thumbed their nose at the FOSS community and used GPL software. I'm skeptical it will come to that, but one can dream.
I’m optimistic that it could be a vulnerability to attack Deer’s abuses via a legal proceeding opposed to the political process. I support much of the Right To Repair platform, but the current progress is so slow.
