Seems like a poorly executed layoff. I’ve seen a few of those in my previous job. Things like an SVP of Product congratulating the machine learning team for an awesome alpha demo and asking when we would be ready to ship this to customers. The answer he got was that it would never get to customers because he laid off the whole team the day before.
