>Think of these warranties as insurance; every insurance claim is subject to review and pushback. How much time do you wanna spend arguing with an underpaid overseas phone rep over the repair of a disposable $50 piece of electronics?

I've bought and been required to use the extended warranty on a couple of ~$200 electronic items on Amazon. There was zero arguing. I filed the claim and they sent me a cheque.

For the most part I agree that the extended warranties are useless, but there are entire classes of products you can buy where it makes sense to have that protection. If you take into consideration the expected life of the product (some of the warranties are 4 years!) and think of the purchase in terms of "1 item is $250, 2 is $275" it can be a great deal.

Don’t agree with some of the statements of the author. Delivery times have gone up? I’ve had quite the opposite experience. I’m frequently getting same day shipping. And this is in the midst of unprecedented logistics challenges.
