In '79 when I dabbled in teco it was already arcane and held to be silly to pick. Well, almost: the uni was still invested in teaching it. I have the manual still.
SOS was just easier to understand and led to Ed quite naturally, which in turn leads to ex/vi. I wish nvi had succeeded. I use Vim faut-de-mieux
I'm glad I played in teco but it did not really inform my editor choices in a positive way (I now live in org mode in Emacs, but use vi otherwise)
The standing joke about teco was your name plus $ did something. Since my name starts with g I have a feeling it applied globally whatever followed.
