Sure, back then it was the only editor available on an MS-DOS installation (was it 3.3 or 4.01?) to the poor soul needing to tweak his CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.

EDLIN was the only text editor for all MS-DOS/PC-DOS versions prior to 5.0, when they were able to piggyback off QBASIC to create EDIT.
