I don't understand why virtually everyone, even DIY enthusiasts, appears to insist on these monstrously large 6-7 key width space bars. Even a 4 width spacebar would leave room for another pair of modifier keys comfortably located beneath the thumbs. The only modern exceptions I've seen are some Japanese keyboards.
