| | Ask HN: Companies in BayArea that hire without leetcode style interviews | | 2 points by posharma on May 13, 2022 | hide | past | favorite | 1 comment | | Are there any companies in Bay Area that pay well and hire w/o leetcode style interviews for staff+ engineer or engineering manager roles (backend)? As a TLM with 2 decades of overall experience and currently managing a team of 7 and a family of 4 I'm finding it very difficult to find time to sustain leetcode practice for several months. I understand it's a necessary evil these days and this is the best most companies can do to hire talent but still looking for exceptions. Thanks! |

That's by design; it's part of the filter.
It's been a while since I've been around them parts, but I was able to survive by going to dev meetups, meeting people doing startups, and getting to know them directly. Essentially, building an underground network of people who I could just start working with without all the tech bro posturing.
Doing it that way takes a while, it's a bit of human interaction work, and you'll learn things at the meetups you'll actually use at your job - plus having a strong network is useful in other ways.
In the end, I made some great friends and got to learn from some amazing people whom I would otherwise have no chance to even be around.
Good luck.
(I'd also be curious to see the list)
